Ajax most expensive signings – How Eredivisie giants spent over €560m on incoming transfers

Born in Sao Paulo, Neres played for his local club since joining them in 2007 at the age of 10.

After breaking in to their senior team, Ajax came calling, signing the winger for €17.40 million in 2017.

Arguably the biggest moment of his career came in the Champions League round of 16 in March 2019 against Real Madrid, where he scored the second goal in the second leg for Ajax, thus knocking Los Blancos out of the tournament.

Injuries and the arrival of Antony, Mohamed Daramy and Steven Berghuis at Ajax meant Neres’ game time was limited between 2019 and 2021.

In January 2022, Shakhtar Donetsk lured him away from Amsterdam, signing him for €12m. He then moved to Benfica for €15.30m in the summer of 2022.
