Marquinhos has urged Brazil team-mate Richarlison to remain “calm” in order to end his goal drought after his tearful outburst against Bolivia.

- Marquinhos offers advice to Richarlison
WHAT HAPPENED? Richarlison’s barren spell continued after he drew a blank in Brazil’s emphatic 5-1 World Cup qualifying win over Bolivia last week. The Tottenham forward missed two golden chances before being taken off in the 71st minute – and was then seen breaking down in tears on the bench. Paris Saint-Germain star Marquinhos has now offered Richarlison some advice in a bid to help him regain confidence.
WHAT THEY SAID: The Brazilian defender told a press conference when quizzed on Richarlison’s form: “I’ve seen players go through ups and downs a lot. Football is very fast, both for good and for bad. That’s what we try to convey to him. He sits at the table next to us and we talk a lot. We already see him much lighter and calmer than he was after the game. We know that for a striker it is very important to score goals and everything, but the role he played on the field, within the game, with movements, pressure, positioning, it was very important.
“Of course, the goal was missing to crown this beautiful performance he had in Belém, but with this style of play we have and Diniz’s philosophy, I think many opportunities will come. We try to give him peace of mind because this goal will come and It will come out at the exact moment. He also can’t be desperate to score that goal, otherwise, it will be increasingly difficult. He has to be calm because an attacker really needs that to perform in front of the goal. That’s what we talked about.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE: Richarlison has not scored for Brazil since their round of 16 victory over South Korea at the Qatar World Cup. The 26-year-old joined Tottenham from Everton in the summer of 2021, but has since scored just one goal in 31 Premier League appearances, including four outings at the start of the new Premier League season.

WHAT NEXT? Richarlison will hope to make amends and get back on the scoresheet when Brazil take on Peru in their next 2026 World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday.
