Manchester City have finalised the signing of Argentine midfielder Maximo Perrone from Velez Sarsfield.
90min confirmed early in the transfer window City had fought off competition to strike a deal for the 20-year-old, who was also being chased by Benfica, Newcastle and Wolverhampton Wanderers, among others.
City are understood to have triggered Perrone’s release clause, which sat at around $9m (£7.5m).
The defensive midfielder has put pen to paper on a five-and-a-half-year contract at the Etihad Stadium and follows fellow countryman Julian Alvarez in moving to the blue half of Manchester this season.
Perrone will return to South America for the Under-20 Championships which is currently taking place in Colombia, and he will then head back to the Etihad, where he is expected to train with Pep Guardiola’s first team for the remainder of the campaign.
The move to City caps off a whirlwind 12 months for Perrone, who only made his senior debut for Velez in March 2022.
Perrone went on to make 33 appearances for the Argentinian side, chipping in with three goals and two assists.
