Nigeria’s Super Falcons open their Women’s World Cup assignment against Olympic Champions Canada on Friday at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium.
It is the ninth time they are playing in the prestigious global competition whereby they will be aiming to get into the latter stages.
The West Africans have been placed in a tough Group B which is also comprised of Australia and the Republic of Ireland.
Canada pose a massive threat to the Super Falcons owing to their quality squad that is known for flair and ruthlessness in front of the goal.
Either team will be going for nothing less than a win to boost their chances of making it to the next phase of the competition.
The two teams played to a 2-2 draw when they last met in April 2022. Despite their triumph in the Olympics, Canada’s best outing in World Cup competition came in 2003 when they finished fourth.
