Nottingham Forest vs Man Utd – Carabao Cup: TV channel, team news, lineups & prediction

Manchester United will have to put their Emirates disappointment aside in midweek as they visit the City Ground for the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest.

The resurgent Red Devils have had their momentum halted over the past week as they collected just a point from their trips to Crystal Palace and Arsenal. Erik ten Hag’s side, however, have made light work of the Carabao Cup thus far, and their journey in this competition continues on Wednesday night.

Forest overcame Wolves in a dramatic quarter-final penalty shootout to set up this semi-final tie. Steve Cooper’s side are on the up, and they’ll be confident of springing a surprise on home soil.

Here’s all you need to know about this one.

Nottingham Forest team news

Man Utd loanee Dean Henderson will be missing on Wednesday with Wayne Hennessey poised to deputise for the England international between the sticks.

Cooper will be without Taiwo Awoniyi, Cheikhou Kouyate, Omar Richards, Moussa Niakhate and Giulian Biancone due to injuries, with midfielder Ryan Yates a doubt due to illness. January arrival Danilo could make his first start for the club should Yates not recover in time.

Chris Wood is cup-tied after appearing in the competition for Newcastle.

(4-3-1-2): Hennessey; Aurier, Worrall, Boly, Lodi; Mangala, Danilo, Freuler; Scarpa; Johnson, Gibbs-White.

Man Utd team news

Casemiro will come straight back into Ten Hag’s starting XI after missing Sunday’s game at Arsenal through suspension. The Brazilian should replace Scott McTominay, while Fred could come in for Christian Eriksen.

Anthony Martial and Diogo Dalot are edging closer to their respective returns but are unlikely to start on Wednesday. Jadon Sancho could also make the matchday squad after returning to training last week.

Donny van de Beek and Axel Tuanzebe are both sidelined.

(4-2-3-1): De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Martinez, Malacia; Casemiro, Fred; Antony, Fernandes, Rashford; Weghorst.

United’s resurgence under Ten Hag has been very impressive, and Casemiro has been a huge part of their improvement. His return is huge on Wednesday as the Red Devils face a tricky test on the road.

Forest’s home form has been critical to their progression in this competition, and they haven’t been beaten at the City Ground since September.

Thus, while United eased beyond Cooper’s side in their December meeting at Old Trafford, Forest’s impressive record on home soil means it should be all to play for in the second leg next week.

Prediction: Nottingham Forest 1-1 Man Utd
