World Cup 2022: Messi and the World Cup trophy land in Argentina: pandemonium ensues!

Thirty-six years later, the World Cup trophy lands on Argentinian soil. The Argentina National Team, led by Leo Messi, are finally back home after securing a historic win in the final against France last Sunday in Doha, Qatar.

Images of Argentine fans celebrating their third World Cup final went viral all over the world, and there will be plenty more material soon as coach Lionel Scaloni’s squad have landed on home soil after a long haul aboard Aerolineas Argentinas flight 1915.

The first to deboard the plane at Buenos Aires’ Ezeiza airport was none other than Lionel Messi, followed closely by AFA President Chiqui Tapia and manager Lionel Scaloni. The World Cup’s MVP was all smiles as he held the iconic Jules Rimet trophy and wore the World Cup’s first place medal around his neck.

The Argentinian players then proceeded to board an open-top bus, which took them on a short drive to the AFA (Argentinian Football Association) headquarters, where they will rest for a few hours before the big parade that awaits them on Tuesday. Nevertheless, the airport tarmac was filled with hundreds of airport workers and journalists who welcomed their national heroes. Afterwards, thousands of fans approached the bus en masse and sang praises for the World Cup champions.

How Argentina’s National Team will celebrate with fans

La Scaloneta, the team’s nickname (affectionately named after their head coach) will due a lengthy tour in the early afternoon after Tuesday was declared a holiday for the government.

This will be the route they will cover on open-top bus throughout Buenos Aires: Ezeiza- Autopista Ricchieri – Dellepiane – Autopista 25 de Mayo – Avenida 9 de Julio – Avenida del Libertador – Avenida Figueroa Alcorta – Libertador- Avenida General Paz – Ricchieri, and will loop back and finish at the AFA headquarters.
